I use it as a stool to sit on while I paint watercolors. I purposely wanted to avoid wheels so I wouldn't constantly be sliding around as I reached out for my brushes and palette. It's adjustable to exactly the right height so I can view my watercolor board from a comfortable view.
Yes, I really like this stool and am very glad I bought it.

I personally own one of these. And I have recommended them to many of my students and other teachers who have purchased several. And I also have 2 others that are very similar but older - might or might not be Alvins - I'm not sure. The older ones have slightly larger seats (about 1" larger in diameter), and slightly lighter gauge steel. I have reupholstered the seats of both of my older ones. But the new ones have a very "squishy" kind of foam in the seat which some may find uncomfortable.
This stool uses very high quality, heavy gauge metal. The adjustable height is a very good feature to have, but it is inconvenient to change because it requires partial disassembly of the stool.

I'm a watercolorist. I paint for maybe 3-4 hours at a sitting. I need to be at a higher height than typical chairs to feel comfortable when I reach out to make brush strokes. I also need to get off the chair (stool) now and then to rinse water pots, answer phones, etc. This chair is padded just enough to be comfortable for long periods and give me support, allows me to get on and off it with ease, and there are no arms to get in the say of my movement as I paint. I didn't want wheels which make getting on the chair trickier. I didn't want to move around. I like the secure feeling of it. I researched a lot of chairs for functionality, comfort, and reasonable price.
This simple solid chair does the job for me. I'm very happy with it.
